DIG a BIT DEEPER

Daniel’s Thoughts on Winnie-the-Pooh

Winnie-the-Pooh has been by my side since I was very young.  My Ma-maw gave me my first stuffed Pooh bear at the age of 5 for Christmas.  On the way home from their house, somehow it fell out of the car and it was lost. I cried and cried.  When my grandmother heard about it, she immediately sent me a replacement.  I was overjoyed.  I still have that little bear.  I have memories of my mother reading the books to me, baking Pooh cakes for my birthday,  and my father telling me bedtime stories of my adventures with Pooh.  I loved the Disney cartoons dearly as a child and watched them on TV whenever they were on.  I don’t know what it is about the gentle mustard colored bear who is always hungry.  But I connected with him. Maybe it was Sterling Holloway’s gentle voice work that so perfectly merged with the animated bear.  Maybe it’s the simplicity of Pooh.  He is a good friend and his is kind.  All he needs are several pots of honey and long walks in the woods.
